This is the thread I will use to document all progress on Athenai. For Athenai I will be purchasing a royalty-free Acropolis model from Turbosquid.com. I will not need any donations for this. Here is what the model looks like: Yes, I will have to texture it, but in my opinion it is a nice model. The rest of the Athenai city will be built in Blender, combined with the Acropolis (I intend to export the Acropolis to obj from 3DSMax at uni, then import that into Blender) and then placed on a flat prepared section in PnP. I will endeavour to make the city one object. The city will be a little simplified than this actual map of Athenai at the time, however most landmarks built by the period of the project will be present. Stay tuned for more updates, and as always, feel free to ask questions or add advice.

Well, I decided (after realising the Erectheion wasn't built in 429BC) to simply build the Acropolis myself. I've completed several buildings so far, including the Parthenon, Propylaea, Chalkotheke, Stoa of Artemis, Arrephorion, and the old Temple of Athena (ruins).
I'll hold off on a screenshot until the geometrical modelling is complete.
Doing it this way is actually better than I thought, I've learned each building's purpose as I researched to find it's dimensions, shape, etc.

Alright, geometry is finished, for the rock, base, and all buildings on the Acropolis itself. As you can see, some texturing has been started and trees are planted. Some more detail geometry may be added at a later stage, for some steps instead of ramps, the buttresses of the walls, and so on. Every building is created according to hefty amounts of research.

Hi Xoel,
Burley clued me into this page, and I am completely blown away by your project. I used to be an avid PS player, and I am also a History/Classics student, so this appeals to me on a number of levels. I would be really interested in collaborating with you if you are looking for input or help in any way. Drop me a line!

Thank you for coming to Reign of Olympia!
At the moment, I don't need much help, but once I have a release out (first release will be the main Athenian city, and human model and some items, NPCs, and quests) I will need help within the game itself, doing things like running events for players, not only for good roleplay, but also to be historically correct and educational, as well as general policing of griefers, trolls, and the like.

I've done a fair bit of work on Athenai since the last time I posted. The Agora is half finished, the Acropolis hill, Aeropagus rock and the rest of the terrain meshed up. Here's the Agora:

Also, Dimitris from Ancient Athenai 3D has been very kind and offered alot of advice about making things more realistic! For instance, the Acropolis only had one tree (I had put a few around) as the Athenians considered the Acropolis too sacred to plant a tree in competition with the one Athena herself planted in her contest with Poseidon to become patron deity of the city. I will also be removing the Temple of Athena Nike from the Acropolis as it wasn't constructed yet. (Pity, it was my favourite ) He also gave alot of advice on naming conventions, and converting Greek names to English properly (which I will implement over the forum via filters, assisting everyone at once).

In my recent work refining the playflow of the game and overall design theory, I've adapted my vision of Athenai a little. I will be pulling it from a "perfect historical representation" into more of an Assassin's Creed (first game) design theory, where major elements of the city are recognisable (the Agora, Acropolis, etc.) with the rest of the city designed to suit playflow.
