Reign of Olympia will be set in the year 429BCE, on the peninsulas of Greece during the Peloponnesian Crisis. The two leading city-states of the time, Athenai and Lakedaemon (known by modern society as Lakedaemon) are at war, and have dragged all of their allies into it. However, the actual war itself is currently halted. Athenai has been hit by a plague (believed to have been typhus) and the Lacedaemonian troops have retreated from their siege, not wanting to contract the plague and share their enemy's fate. Minor battles and skirmishes still occur. Inside Athenai, Pericles has just died, and is succeeded by Cleon. The plague seems to be fading away. Lakedaemon is unaffected by the plague, and Spartiates, Helots, and Peroikoi (free men) are preparing for the next stage of the war, training, crafting, and tilling the soils. Korinthos, sitting at the halfway point between the two leading states, is aligned with Lakedaemon. Korinthos enjoys a monopoly over the Isthmus of Korinthos, the tiny land-bridge connecting the Peloponnese to Boeotia and Attike.
