Hello everyone, and welcome to Reign of Olympia.
You may be asking, how can one man make a whole game? Exactly what level of "game" is he intending to make?
I'm a huge fan of Lakedaemon and the Classical Greek period, particularly the period surrounding the Pelepponesian Wars. My goal is simply to make a "virtual reality" where the user is immersed in this timeframe, for roleplaying, or simply to experience life in Classical Greece.
At this point in time, my goals are slim and mostly focussed on art. I will be building the game in Blender, texturing in Photoshop, and exporting this through to CrystalSpace. This will then be put in the PlaneShift engine.
I intend to modify the PlaneShift GUI to fit my game artistically, and at minimum, users of Reign of Olympia will be able to use the text chat functions of the PlaneShift engine. How much happens in the way of combat scripting, "magic" and the like depends on my ability to learn to script, and also how people on these forums tend to want the project to turn out. I have dedicated myself to being the sole developer of this project.
Art will be proprietary, however, don't be afraid to ask me for a source file if you want it for a project of your own. Reign of Olympia will have many generic things, like average people, horses, and buildings, which I see no harm in sharing with other projects.
I will be constantly in discussion with leading PlaneShift and CrystalSpace developers to create maps that are optimal for good gameplay, however, I recommend playing on a system that has some beef. Personally, I am running 3.1GHz quad core Phenom II, 2Gb of RAM, and an nVidia GeForce 8800GT. So having a system of around that weight should give you good results.
As I won't be changing any code, I suggest that anyone who wants to see changes, or contribute code, head over to PlaneShift and contribute there.
